Curcuma longa, popularly known as Turmeric, is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant used in folk medicine for the treatment, prevention, and management of various illnesses such cancer, diabetes, Arthritis, diarrhoea, inflammation, psoriasis, hepatobiliary diseases, gastric peptic ulcers. This study reviewed ethnomedicinal potentials, phytochemicals, pharmacological activities C. longa. In vitro vivo studies reported that longa its major bioactive constituent (curcumin) possess properties. These include; anticancer, antidiabetic, anti-osteoarthritis, antidiarrheal, cardioprotective, anti-oxidative, neuroprotective, hepatoprotective, anti-microbial, renoprotective anti-inflammatory activities. review demonstrated might be attributed to presence numerous compounds. However, these varying potentials have not been effectively analysed optimal application developing new therapies. Also, applicability mode action different compounds found fully exploited. showed could exploited by pharmaceutical industries develop products. there need human clinical trials quality control establish effective safe doses constituent-curcumin suitable treating several diseases.
